Far-right Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree, on January 15, extending in practice the right to possession of weapons in Brazil, one of the leading countries in armed violence and deaths from firearms, with an average of 30 murders per 100,000 people – 30 times greater than all of Europe – and with 63,880 violent deaths in 2017 alone and 1,133 cases of femicide among 4,539 violent deaths of women.
